RBI Grade 'B' Phase - I : Exam Review

RBI conducted exam for RBI Grade 'B' today, i.e., 04.09.2016 for Phase - I of the exam. Let us take a look at the analysis of the exam.

The overall level of difficulty of RBI Grade B Examination can be stated as Moderate. This was quite expected as you cannot have an easy paper for such a lucrative post. The Section-Wise Exam Analysis is as follows.


RBI Grade B Exam Analysis 2016: English Language (Total Questions - 30)


Most students rated English Section to be Easy to Moderate in terms of difficulty level. Questions asked were related to the following:

(i) Reading Comprehension – 2 passages (Moderate)

1st passage – 5 Questions

2nd passage – 5 Questions

(ii) Cloze Test  – 10 Questions (Easy to Moderate)

(iii) Fillers – 5 Questions (Easy to Moderate)

(iv) Spotting Error – 5 Questions  (Easy)


A lot of Questions were from the Non-Grammar Portion and we expect a well prepared candidate to attempt around 20-22 questions and score of 14-16.


RBI Grade B Exam Analysis 2016: General Awareness (Total Questions - 80)


There were questions on the current affairs & Banking Awareness topics. This section also included questions on  books & authors, currencies, Important Places, Awards, Headquarters, Prime Ministers Schemes, Important Days  etc. Overall questions from this section were of moderate difficulty level.

  • Maximum GK questions asked from July and August month.
  • Approx 10 Questions asked from Static GK


A well prepared candidates is expected to attempt around 40-42 questions and get  score of 28-30.


RBI Grade B Exam Analysis 2016: Reasoning Ability (Total Questions - 60)


Most of the questions were Easy except puzzles which were of moderate difficulty,  so we consider the section to be of Moderate difficulty. The questions asked were related to:


 (i) Syllogism – 5 Questions

(ii) Seating Arrangement – 5 Qs.

  • Row north n south with cities and different profession (surgeon, admission, pharmacy etc.)

(iii) Puzzle – 10 Questions 

  • Days : mon-sun with subjects
  • Floor ques with numbers(2,4,6,12..etc)

(v) Input Output – 5 Questions

(vi) Data Sufficiency  – 5 Questions 

(vii) Inequality –5 Questions  

(viii) Coding Decoding – 5 Questions 

(ix) Rest were Miscellaneous Questions – 5 Questions


A good attempt in this section would be 36-38 questions and good score will be 28-30.


RBI Grade B Exam Analysis 2016: Quantitative Aptitude (Total Questions - 30)


There were mixed reactions from RBI candidates in this Section. Some questions were quite easy to solve but a lot of them had lengthy calculations and ambiguous language. Hence, the difficulty level was Moderate to Tough.


(i)  Number Series – 5 Questions (Find the wrong number) 

(ii)  Data Interpretation - 5 Questions

(iii)  Rest were Miscellaneous Questions

Miscellaneous Questions consist of questions from different topics such as – Profit loss, Average, SI & CI, Ratio & Proportion, Time & Work, Time, Speed & Distance, Boats & Streams, etc.


You can consider your score well if you were able to attempt 15-17 questions and get a score of 13-14 in this section.
